NATEP

The National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP) is aimed at Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sized suppliers to help them develop their own innovative technologies, working in collaboration and supported by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Tier 1 Suppliers, to enhance capabilities and increase the SME’s ability to win new business anywhere in the world.

Although delivered through a partnership of organisations, the programme is funded through ATI by Innovate UK. It will provide independent assessors and manage the programme, from contracting projects, through performance monitoring to close-out.

Why is NATEP needed?

The ATI’s mission is to help the UK economy to grow by creating a clear and ambitious portfolio of research and technology (R&T) projects in aerospace. It is responsible for developing the UK Aerospace Technology Strategy, and encourages Industry-led projects that fit within this strategy and can maximise the potential to the UK economy. By continuing to develop an Aerospace supply chain with a high rate of innovation, rich in new technologies, the UK will be better able to offer the right products and services, at the right time and ahead of competition. This will ensure that market opportunities are exploited with high value manufacturing work retained in the UK.

What support do applicants get?

NATEP supports SMEs through the engagement and proposal development phases of a given capability. It provides technical and management mentoring throughout the project, something which is unique to the NATEP programme, and helps companies to accelerate their technology development towards market readiness. The programme draws upon industry professionals and technology managers to support the development of applications for funding through peer review and feedback, known as the Proposal Review Panel (PRP).

Rolls Royce, Airbus, Bombardier, GKN and Leonardo, are sponsoring the programme, ensuring that everyone from the top level of the Industry down is working together, towards the same goal.

NATEP 3

The NATEP 3 is a new 4-year, £10 million, UK wide initiative. It is to be delivered by the Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space (ADS) Group in partnership with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the AGP, Devolved Adminstrations and the Regional Aerospace Alliances (RAA). It is based on a proven model delivered by the partner organisations since 2013.
